We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Data Manager to lead our Data Engineering team within the Data Department. This team plays a pivotal role in managing all facets of data ingestion, storage, and transformation, leveraging modern tools and environments like Databricks, DBT, Airflow, Kubernetes, AWS, ThoughtSpot and Terraform. As the primary technical owner of the data platform, you will ensure its scalability to meet business needs and align with broader organizational objectives. Additionally, you will foster technical expertise within the team by providing coaching and leadership as they tackle complex technical challenges.

Your Impact

  • Regularly evaluate new technologies and services to enhance our data platform's processing, management, and delivery capabilities, adapting it to meet evolving product and business requirements.
  • Build and nurture relationships with data and other engineering leaders to ensure alignment on large-scale projects and identify opportunities for improvement, proactively communicating challenges and roadblocks.
  • To champion team member growth, coach team members to improve, share resources, and lead by example to drive continuous learning across a wide range of technical and soft skills.
  • Through your proficiency in data engineering practices, assist the team in technical delivery and review completed work.
  • Maintain the data platform, monitoring its performance and reporting on team metrics to ensure data availability and quality 

About You

  • Proven experience in a data engineering role, with a minimum of 1-2 years in a leadership capacity and comfortable using both Python and PySpark
  • A capable contributor and technical leader, with the ability to communicate effectively, and lead your team in the execution and delivery of impactful projects.
  • Efficient and accurate programming skills, with notable proficiency in SQL, showcasing a deep understanding of relevant APIs and tools.
  • Comfortable working in a player-coach model and able to tackle technical tasks in support of team goals and objectives.  
  • Collaborative mindset, fostering partnerships with cross-functional teams to solve problems and refine solutions.
  • You thrive on seeing your team members grow, develop and achieve their goals.
  • Not afraid to stretch yourself outside of your comfort zone to take on new challenges, and have a love for continuous learning.

Bonus Points

  • Experience working with data at scale using Pyspark
  • AWS/Databricks experience
  • Agile workflow or Kanban experience
  • Experience in the educational software space or free-to-play games
